LDRS 27 continues the tradition of the Saturday evening LDRS Banquet and Tripoli All-Member meeting.
The Banquet will take place at the Best Western Airport Inn & Conference Center, our official LDRS 27 host hotel. The evening will start with social hour beginning at 6:00pm followed by a delicious three-meat buffet including all the trimmings. After dinner, the floor will be turned-over to the Tripoli Board of Directors for their annual "State of Rocketry" presentation, announcement of new Board members, and other TRA business.
Following the business meeting, we have arranged for a Featured Guest Speaker for the LDRS 27 Banquet: Jim Remer, Senior Vice President of the Kansas Cosmosphere. The Cosmosphere houses one of the most significant collections of U.S. and Russian space artifacts in the world and operates the world's leading space artifact restoration and replication facility, which is the only location designated by the Smithsonian Institution to restore flown U.S. spacecraft.
Mr. Remer's presentation will deal specifically with the restoration of the
Mercury spacecraft "Liberty Bell 7" and the Apollo 13 Command Module
"Odyssey". He leads the Cosmosphere's Restoration Team known as "Space
Works", a staff of dedicated artists, technicians, machinists, engineers,
and carpenters assembled 20 years ago who have worked on some of the most
iconic space artifacts in the history of space exploration. The restoration
and replication projects accomplished by Space Works are on exhibit
throughout the world, inspiring the imagination and dreams of young and old
alike.
